2009 Abingdon Works Centre Events

Thursday 12th March - AWC Annual General Meeting, at The Dog House Hotel, Frilford Heath. Contact Bob Foster 01256 328669 or Richard Martin on 01235 529331.

Saturday 4th April - Annual Centre Dinner. The Centre's annual dinner and awards is being held at the Steventon House Hotel, Abingdon, 19:30 for 20:00. Phone Brian Moylan for tickets on 01235 531384.

Sunday 26th April - St. George’s Day Run. Starting from Sophos Plc on Abingdon Science Park. Abingdon, the St. George's Run coincides with the FBHVC's "Drive it Day". Sunday 24th May - Old Speckled Hen Run. Starting from a location in the Abingdon area, and returning for tea and scones after an unmissable run. Contact Mike Parker on 01235 525255. This event is now fully booked.

Thursday 9th July - Pre-Silverstone Dinner.

MGLive! 10th 11th 12th July 2009

Friday 10th to Sunday 12th July - Abingdon Works Centre at MG Live! at Silverstone. The MG Car Club’s annual Gymkhana and Autotest is organised, as usual, by the AWC, and this time you can win a valuable Oris watch from Fraser Hart. Don't forget to come and see us on our stand in the MGCC Pavilion over the weekend!

Sunday 26th July - Summer Day Out. The AWC's traditional day in the sun, this year finishing at Claydon House, near Buckingham, Buckinghamshire, MK18 2EY. Road runs starting at Abingdon and Reading. Friday 18th to Tuesday 22nd September - Trip to Argentan, France. Enjoy a trip to Abingdon's French twin town of Argentan. A weekend away in an area not too far from the Normandy Coast. Sunday 4th October - Chairman’s Run. A road run of the AWC Chairman’s choice, starting from Abingdon, and finishing at Bletchley Park. Contact Richard Martin on 01235 529331. This event is now fully booked.

Friday 26th December - the 16th Boxing Day Run. Blow away the cobwebs with the annual Boxing Day Run starting from Abingdon Market Square, arrive 9.30-10.00am. £5 per car, no need to pre-book, 50 car limit. The finish will be at The Dog House Hotel (a favourite haunt of MG company directors) at Frilford, where cooked meals will be available, but book first on 01865 390830. Sunday 26th April - Deer's Hut 'Drive It Day' Road Run starting from the Deer's Hut public house at 10.00am. The run covers some of the beautiful countryside of East Hampshire / West Sussex and finishes at the Tangmere Aviation Museum near Chichester around lunch time. Tuesday 9th June - Chesham Natter Landlord's Cup - the second round will take place at the Hit or Miss pub, Penn Street, about 3 miles south west of Amersham.

Monday 15th June - Chesham Natter trip to Windsor Racecourse - have a picnic, watch the racing and listen to Eddie Jordan and his group live on stage. Contact Linda Darnell on 01844 274187 for more details.

Sunday 28th June - The South East Centre Midsummer Pride of Ownership and Barbeque at Woodcroft, Billingshurst. Contact Derek Edwards on 01737 765891.

Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd August - MGFest 09 at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire. The ZR/ZS/ZT Register joins the MGF Register for a road run and festival night on the Saturday with live music and a Glow Cars competition. Sunday has a whole host of events, including driving tests, arena displays, a photo competition and club stands. Visit the MGFest 09 website for more information.

Sunday 9th August - The South East Centre Summer Gathering will be held at Chiddingstone Castle, Chiddingstone, Edenbridge, Kent. Entry to the event will include entry to the Castle, home to the amazing and varied collections of Denys Bower. There will be a Concours, Pride of Ownership, Driving Tests, Gymkhana and Treasure Hunt - or you can join in on a run in to the event and just enjoy the grounds and have a picnic. Sunday 6th September - the Midget Register's Road Run to Ragley Hall. Traditionally starting from the steam railway centre at Toddington, and following an interesting 60 mile route through the Cotswolds and surrounding countryside following little used byways, this year's late summer event visits the magnificent Ragley Hall. Non-MGCC Events

Saturday 25th April - MGs at Windsor Castle. The Rotary Club of Windsor and Eton, in conjunction with the main MG car clubs, are organising a fund raising event in Windsor for The Prince Philip Trust Fund. It is the organisers intention that there will be a total of 300 cars which will cover all the models and their variants ever produced by MG. Selected cars will take part in a parade through the streets of Windsor which will finish with a Royal review in the inner quadrangle at Windsor Castle. Monday 31st August - Bredon Vintage & Classic Car Rally. This well known event takes place at Bredon Cricket Club, Westmancote Bredon nr Tewkesbury GL20 7EU (just off  B4080, 4 miles north of Tewkesbury). No need to Book! Just turn up. Saturday 26th September - Luffield Speed Championship at Prescott Speed Hill Climb, Gloucestershire. In addition to the many MGs that will be taking part there are also expected Morgans, Porsches, TVRs various single seaters including historic Formula 500s, plus some pre-war vintage machinery. Designated special parking area in the orchard car park, plus the opportunity to drive the famous course as part of a demonstration run of MGs during the lunch hour.
