February 2013 – 1980 MG Midget

History

Purchased from a chap in Staines who was moving back to South Africa. 2 previous owners.

She has remained in good condition (apart from when somebody decided to pull out in front of me on a roundabout, after which the chasis had to be straightened, the wing and bonnet had to be resprayed and the front bumper replaced – with some horrible painted thing!).

She is still an eye catcher, mainly when people watch in amazement at a 6 foot 1 inch tall woman folding herself up into the driving seat!

She now spends her days being autotested and has been my trusted partner in winning the John Thornley Trophy eight times and part of an Abingdon works team winning both the BMC trophy and the California Cup. She is now lucky enough to holiday for 6 months of the year in sunny Reading, in a climate controlled (!) garage in the company of an M type and a 1939 Triumph motorbike (thanks Dad!). Roll on May when she comes home for the summer!
