February 2014 – 1957 MG Magnette ZB
January 2014 sadly was the aniversary of my father-in-law, Peter Tothill’s passing. Peter spent nearly seven years on this car. I have spent a further year getting it to the stage you see in the pictures.
Peter wanted to create a Magnette (one of his favourite cars) to drive in modern road conditions. He designed a revised wiring loom which includes, amongst other things, a fuel pump interia switch, hazard warning lights, heated rear window and fog light.
Sadly the original engine had been ‘reconditioned’ using little more than a very expensive tin of paint. It will however be rebuilt using its period HRG Derrington cross flow head.
I have just had the original wheels ‘banded’ out to 5.5J to take 185/70 15 tyres. The front brakes are an MGA disc conversion. I will get the car out to as many events as I can this summer.
