The Abingdon Works Monthly Committee meeting was dragging on a bit when the question was asked. Having moved downstairs to the new John Thornley Suite at Kimber House from holding our previous meetings in the somewhat cramped Douglas Mickle room, the members could now spread out their paraphernalia of biscuits, coffee and paperwork over this vast expanse of a table. Looking around the room it dawned on us that there didn’t appear to be a timepiece that we could refer to.
Months previous to the Suite opening the AWC Committee decided that the Abingdon Works Centre would make a donation to Kimber House to go towards an object that would be used in the John Thornley Room but that object was still undecided. Here was the idea that had been eluding us.
Kimber House staff were approached and it soon became clear that the clocks on display were not too photogenic to say the least.
Back to idea mode. A decision was made that we should commission a unique timepiece for the club and after much searching, altering designs, emails and phone calls, early November saw a stunning contemporary multi chronometer presented to Kimber House to be displayed in the John Thornley Suite for all to see.
Thanks go to Contemporary Heaven staff who had time on their hands (bad pun) to give us their professional advice on the ever changing design.
