2016 Old Speckled Hen
The 24th Old Speckled Hen Run started from its traditional location, Radley College, on Sunday 29th May 2016. A cloudy, windy morning saw 88 cars assemble in the college grounds with the entrants fortifying themselves with hot drinks, while Richard and Gill Martin handed out the envelopes containing the route books and rally plaques.
The run got under way with MG Car Club Chairman Ian Quarrington waving off the cars, using the well known “Bill’s flag” Union Jack, unofficially named in honour of the late Bill Wallis. The picturesque route took the runners to the lunchtime halt at Stonor Park, near Henley-on-Thames, with its rolling hills and red kites flying overhead. The sun finally decided to join in here!
Back at Radley College, having followed a different picturesque route, entrants were able to relax and unwind. AWC Chairman Richard Martin gave a tribute to the late Brian Bassett, who was well known in the MG Car Club and AWC alike, and who will be sadly missed. Having thanked everyone for coming, Richard Martin and Tony Cotter held a draw and the lucky winners each received two bottles of Old Speckled Hen which had been kindly donated by Greene King.
