2018 Old Speckled Hen
Despite an appalling weather forecast, there was a steady stream of cars arriving at Radley College for the AWC’s 2018 Old Speckled Hen Tour. The forecast, which included ‘yellow weather warnings’ had certainly given the organisers a nervous period in the days leading up to the event. However, the day of the 26th Tour started dry as the cars started on their scenic route to the lunch-halt flagged off by Abingdon’s Mayor, Councillor Margaret Crick. The cars did encounter a short, sharp downpour which stopped soon after the hoods were erected! However, the sun soon appeared and drivers, navigators and cars were able to dry off whilst enjoying their picnics at Mapledurham Estate. After exploring the grounds and the Watermill, the cars drove a different rural route back to Radley College for their cream tea and the chance to swap tales of the day. Apart from the one, albeit heavy, drop of rain, it was a dry day, much to the relief of the organisers!
